Busy days fill the void of disillusionment halfway, to fill up the rest I like to run into you. Come into my working place for a cup of coffee and stay. If I seem a little tense it's only because I'm staring my heart in the face.
When you leave in the passenger seat of my car I'll still find little things that remind me where you are: not there. Long hairs in the box when you returned my waffle iron. Give me a lime so that I don't have to taste this anymore.
The next day is the time at home that I'll spend feeling strange. Not un-okay, just like I almost had you again, but it couldn't end any other way.

It probably would've meant none for some, but I don't do anything just for fun, I take it like it's what my life depends on. I mean things when I say them to someone.
You said, "Let's get together [someday]," but that's only something people say when they're signing off, probably running late, but they're too polite to just walk away.
So I vacillate between ideas about leaving town or sticking here because you could come around anytime this year. You could figure out I was so sincere, but maybe that's exactly what you fear and of course you would because it's granite-clear and we never talked about your heart for real. If we ever talk we'll have to start with "Dear..."

Memorable in a blouse that I liked wearing your short-shorts late in the summer at night. Listening to Sonic Youth on a drive and catching a glimpse of your hands in the corner of my eye.
Plenty occasions, tapes to rewind, I lose the remote when I drink sometimes. Listening to Yo La Tengo on drives, they're keeping my brain occupied.
All I'm trying to say is Hi.
